Our Team: The Asphalt Contractor Crew Behind Every Pink Truck
Twelve people, three generations, and one standard for every parking lot, driveway, or concrete pad we touch.
Here is who shows up when you call Quality Asphalt & Maintenance.
Big Enough to Handle Any Project, Small Enough to Care
Quality Asphalt & Maintenance has been an asphalt contractor in this part of Michigan for more than 35 years, and the crew has grown from a single family trade into a full team of estimators, foremen, and field technicians. We run roughly a dozen people strong, with enough equipment and manpower to resurface a multi-acre commercial lot and enough flexibility to still handle a single residential driveway on the same street. That same team handles everything from residential driveway sealcoating to the commercial concrete flatwork a property manager needs replaced before an inspection.
That balance is deliberate. A lot of commercial asphalt contractors get big enough to lose the personal touch, and a lot of small crews stay small because they never built the systems to take on larger capital maintenance work. We built both: the capacity for multi-site commercial asphalt maintenance programs and the habit of treating every property, residential or commercial, like it belongs to a neighbor. That same range is why we work as a commercial concrete contractor on the same job site where we are paving and sealcoating, instead of asking a property manager to coordinate two separate companies.
Property managers planning phased capital projects and homeowners protecting a single driveway get the same thing from this team: a straight answer about what the pavement actually needs, delivered by people who have been doing this work, together, for decades.

The People Behind the Pink Trucks
You will see these names on proposals, site assessments, and project schedules. Each one has a different role, but the same standard for the work.
Shane Farlin Sr., Owner
A founding voice of the family business and still involved in the decisions that shape how every job gets bid, staffed, and delivered. Shane Sr. built the standards this crew still works by.
Alan Klaiss, Owner
Co-owner and partner in running the day-to-day operations that keep crews moving across Battle Creek, Lansing, and every town in between. Alan keeps the business side as disciplined as the fieldwork.
Jeremy Grable, Operations Manager
The person coordinating crews, equipment, and schedules so a commercial parking lot job and a residential driveway can both get done right in the same week. Jeremy keeps projects on track from first assessment to final walkthrough.
Shane Farlin II, Foreman
Third-generation family on the crew and the foreman most property owners will meet on site. Shane II runs the day-to-day work with the same attention to detail his grandfather expected on job one.
Decades of Field Experience, Built for Michigan Asphalt and Concrete
Michigan is a hard place to keep pavement looking and performing well. Freeze/thaw cycles, plow blades, and winter road salt all stress asphalt and concrete in ways that southern climates never deal with, and a crew only learns how to work around those stresses by doing it year after year.
That experience shows up in the decisions a homeowner or property manager never sees directly, but benefits from anyway:
- Knowing when a parking lot needs full resurfacing versus a targeted patch and crack seal, so budgets go toward the right fix
- Reading drainage problems before they become a pothole, a sinkhole, or a liability claim
- Understanding why coal tar free sealcoating matters for groundwater, landscaping, and anyone walking barefoot near a driveway
- Timing sealcoating and paving work around Michigan's real application windows instead of a generic calendar
- Building ADA-compliant striping and access routes that hold up to inspection, not just a fresh coat of paint
- Knowing when commercial concrete flatwork needs full replacement and when a repair genuinely extends its life
This is the same team working residential asphalt maintenance on a Tuesday morning and commercial asphalt maintenance on a five-acre retail lot that afternoon. The tools and timelines differ, but the judgment behind the work comes from the same three generations of field experience.

Whether you are a property manager planning next season's capital maintenance or a homeowner finally ready to deal with that cracked driveway, you are working with the same experienced crew either way. Reach out and talk to the people who will actually be on your property, not a call center reading from a script. From the first phone call to the final walkthrough, the same team that quotes the job is the team that shows up to do it, because that kind of continuity is part of the quality promise this company was built on.
